A Home Economics graduate of KSU, Roberta and Dr. A.O. Gigstad have been married 55 years.  She and her husband started their own beterinary practice nearly 50 years agao in the basement of their home.  She has managed the office, been the bookeeper, assisted with examination and surgery, groomed dogs, all the time showing compassion for the clients who loved their pets.  During this time a daughter and three sons were born to them.  She raised their four children while her husband was busy being a veterinarian and community volunteer.

As a longtime NVMA Auxiliary member, Roberta has held all the offices, was President in 2000, served as the Science Fair Chair formany years and arranged activities for the Auxiliary meetings held in Nebraska City.  She was a member of the Nebraska Mrs. Jaycees and served as their State President in 1963-64.  As a member of the First Christian Church, she has been a Deacon and is always ready to lend a helping hand, especially when it comes to taking baked goodies for dinners and bazaars.
